We are an old, new church.

We're old in the sense that in September of last year we turned 45 years old! Solid Rock was started by 19 individuals who decided to take a gospel stand against racism. The church they split off from asked these individuals to stop providing a bus ministry to youth in the surrounding communities. Most of the youth were black. This was clearly racially motivated and these 19 people decided it was an issue worth taking a stand on.

Thus Solid Rock was born. And God has sustained us these 45 years.

But we're also a new church. New because we believe God is doing a new thing in our midst (Is. 43:19). We're proud of our history and talk about it often. But the past does not define us. We are committed to the mission of Jesus and what he has ahead of us. In 2014, we sent out our senior pastor of 7 years to plant a church in Bowie, MD called Living Hope. We are excited about this church plant and desire to move forward with many more in the future.

We are grateful to have both people who were a part of those first 19, and people who just got here a month ago. But what unites us all is our passion to see Jesus worshipped and our desire to grow together in love and community so that we might carry on the mission Jesus gave us. We're old, we're new. We're a diverse church and we're proud of that. But more than that we are all sons and daughters. And we all have one story. That once we were lost but now we are found and now we get to live the rest of our lives for Jesus together...
